Located in Hambantota District, as the name implies it is a rock temple called “Mulkirigala” it is built on second century B.C by King Saddathissa. There are many cave paintings are reaming in good condition. There is mixture of religious and non-religious paintings also with sculptures. Can find the 15m long sculpture of Buddha Statue. There are many very beautiful paintings with good conditions even today. In Mulkirigala find seven vihara (temples) and seven Buddha Statues. Top of the rock makes more amazing surroundings with 360 views and it is breathtaking. There is staircase made by granite and that is truly amazing creation. Every king has been supported to this Buddhist Monastery and there are many evidence remain in here. There are paintings and sculptures found which related to many kingdom eras of Sri Lanka. The annually huge amount of locals, as well as foreigners, visit this amazing place to observe as well as worship. Even sacred Bo tree also planted in here which taken from Anuradhapura Sacred Bo Tree.
